THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - August 5, 2014 - Day 12 - Psalm 12

Day 12 - Psalm 12

“Let God be found true, though every man be found a liar” says the Apostle Paul in Romans 3:4. In Psalm 12 David cries out to God in response to the lies and deception he has experienced in men.

Psalm 12:1-2
“Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases to be, For the faithful disappear from among the sons of men. They speak falsehood to one another; With flattering lips and with a double heart they speak.”

We live in a world of lies. Obviously this is nothing new but now that we have this thing called the Internet man’s lies and deception can be spread throughout the entire world literally at the speed of light. Politicians lie, advertisers lie, even the medical field is filled with deception. The world will tell you anything to sell you their wares, be they drugs, cars, or food.

But the greatest liar and deceiver of all is Satan. Jesus describes him in John 8:44, “…He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

One of the greatest successes of Satan is that he has deceived even many in the church concerning God’s Word, the Bible. Satan hates God’s Word. The simple truth is that the Bible is the truth and it is sufficient for all of our needs.

Man thinks he is getting away with his lies.

Psalm 12:3-4
“May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, The tongue that speaks great things;
Who have said, "With our tongue we will prevail; Our lips are our own; who is lord over us?"

But God is not blind to all this deception and He is lord over man.

Psalm 12:5
"Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy, Now I will arise," says the LORD; "I will set him in the safety for which he longs."

Like David we must turn to God for our help. He has given us the scriptures. They are perfect in every way.

Psalm 12:6-7
“The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times. You, O LORD, will keep them; You will preserve him from this generation forever.”

We must live out this life watching out for the lies of the devil for they are everywhere. But we can rest in Christ knowing He is the way, the truth, and the life. God sees. He watches over those whose faith is in Christ and in Him alone.

This Psalm finishes with truth.

Psalm 12:7-8
“Therefore, LORD, we know you will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.”
