Studies in the Psalms - Psalm 111

Have you ever just heard the voice of God, through the Holy Spirit, speak to your heart? This past week God has been talking to me about the need for us as Christians, to move to a place in our lives and in our churches, to give more reverence to Him. Psalm 110, my morning reading, speaks of this very thing. It is a psalm of worship and a psalm of praise. Everything we do should begin with praise for our God.

Psalm 111:1
Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart, In the company of the upright and in the assembly.

There are many reasons to immerse ourselves daily in the Bible. The psalmist instructs us here that in His Word are found the truths of who God is. The scriptures speak of His attributes and they speak of His works. We must be students of these truths.

Psalm 111:2-8
Great are the works of the LORD; They are studied by all who delight in them.  Splendid and majestic is His work, And His righteousness endures forever.  He has made His wonders to be remembered; The LORD is gracious and compassionate.  He has given food to those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever.  He has made known to His people the power of His works, In giving them the heritage of the nations.  The works of His hands are truth and justice; All His precepts are sure.  They are upheld forever and ever; They are performed in truth and uprightness.

If you can find no other reason to feel joy and a desire to praise God today, if you are a Christian, then the facts of His salvation and redemption we have through His faithfulness to the New Covenant, are enough to lead you to worship Him.

Psalm 111:9
He has sent redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and awesome is His name.

Do you want to know God? Then learn what it means to fear Him. Give Him the reverence He deserves and be obedient to His Word.

Psalm 111:10
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.
