THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - November 5, 2014 - Day 86 - Psalm 86

The world we live in seems so unsteady. The stock market is one of those things I just never feel comfortable with. It goes up and it goes down. About the time it looks like it is doing well and my investments are secure we have a crazy day and the bottom drops out. Life is like the market; as soon as things seem steady the bottom drops out. There is one thing that we can put our money on to be steady no matter what. God’s love is steadfast. There are no Black Tuesdays or market corrections to God’s love. It is steadfast. So we can confidently call on God when we feel unsteady.

Psalm 86:1-5
A PRAYER OF DAVID. Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day. Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

We can always cry out to God in our need.

Psalm 86:6-8
Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.

The world will tell you not to trust in God. But Psalm 86 looks prophetically to a day when every knee shall bow to Jesus.

Psalm 86:9
All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.

It will be too late in that day for many. But it is not too late today. He is our only hope.

Psalm 86:10
For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us in this life. We must pray for the Spirit to teach us how to walk steady in these days of an unsteady world.

Psalm 86:11
Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

Be thankful Christians. We are so blessed for He has saved us from the Day of Judgment.

Psalm 86:12-13
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

The godless world wants to destroy us and break our faith.

Psalm 86:14
O God, insolent men have risen up against me; a band of ruthless men seek my life, and they do not set you before them.

But God’s mercy and grace sustains us.

Psalm 86:15-17
But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Turn to me and be gracious to me; give your strength to your servant, and save the son of your maidservant. Show me a sign of your favor, that those who hate me may see and be put to shame because you, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
Praise Him today for Jesus given us a reason to stand firm in an unsteady world
