THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - October 24, 2014 - Day 76 - Psalm 76

In the course of our lives there will be ups and downs. Battles will be fought and at times things will seem hopeless. But when we place our trust in Jesus we can be sure that victory will come. In times of trouble we cry out to God. In times of victory we must lift Him up with praise and worship. Psalm 76 is a psalm of praise meant to be sung. His name is great.

Psalm 76:1-3
TO THE CHOIRMASTER: WITH STRINGED INSTRUMENTS. A PSALM OF ASAPH. A SONG. In Judah God is known; his name is great in Israel. His abode has been established in Salem, his dwelling place in Zion. There he broke the flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah

God has no comparison. When we finally see Him in all His glory we will be stunned.

Psalm 76:4
Glorious are you, more majestic than the mountains of prey.

Today we have war and terrorism running rampant in the world but when Jesus returns the evil leaders of this fallen world shall be broken.

Psalm 76:5-6
The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil; they sank into sleep; all the men of war were unable to use their hands. At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse lay stunned.

Again comes the message that it is God and God alone whom we should fear.

Psalm 76:7-9
But you, you are to be feared! Who can stand before you when once your anger is roused? From the heavens you uttered judgment; the earth feared and was still, when God arose to establish judgment, to save all the humble of the earth. Selah

Every knee will bow one day. Sadly for those who reject Him it will be too late to avoid the judgment.

Psalm 76:10
Surely the wrath of man shall praise you; the remnant of wrath you will put on like a belt.

We Christians have made many vows to God. How often we have made promises to Him as we sought to make a deal with God. We need to fulfill those vows. We need to fall before Him in humility and offer Him back everything we have ever had. It all comes from Him. Our very lives are His.

1 Corinthians 7:23
You were bought with a price; do not become slaves of men.

That price was death on a cross. Our death. But Jesus took our place.

Psalm 76:11-12
Make your vows to the LORD your God and perform them; let all around him bring gifts to him who is to be feared, who cuts off the spirit of princes, who is to be feared by the kings of the earth.
Today is the day of salvation. Let us praise God and let us revere His very name
