THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - October 10, 2014 - Day 65 - Psalm 66

Sometimes we need to just go quietly before God in reverent worship. There is nothing at all wrong with singing out praise and using instruments to lift up our worship. But there is also a time for reverent silence before Him. There need be times we recognize we are standing on Holy ground. Through Christ we have been given access to the almighty God. Psalm 65 starts off speaking of praise. Silent praise. Though it is a prophetic psalm that speaks of the return of Christ, it also has present day meaning to us. Historically it is a psalm of harvest, but we too, have a great harvest to praise God for in our daily lives. Come before Him now in silent, reverent worship.

Psalm 65:1
There will be silence before You, and praise in Zion, O God, And to You the vow will be performed.

We must praise Him for He hears our prayers. He forgives our sins.

Psalm 65:2-3
O You who hear prayer, To You all men come. Iniquities prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You forgive them.

Thanks be to Jesus we have access to the Father. We have greater access than the Levitical priests.

Psalm 65:4
How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You To dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

He is the God of our salvation. He has chosen us to dwell in His courts.

Psalm 65:5
By awesome deeds You answer us in righteousness, O God of our salvation, You who are the trust of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest sea;

The entire creation was created and is sustained by His mighty power.

Psalm 65:6-10
Who establishes the mountains by His strength, Being girded with might; Who stills the roaring of the seas, The roaring of their waves, And the tumult of the peoples. They who dwell in the ends of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the dawn and the sunset shout for joy. You visit the earth and cause it to overflow; You greatly enrich it; The stream of God is full of water; You prepare their grain, for thus You prepare the earth. You water its furrows abundantly, You settle its ridges, You soften it with showers, You bless its growth.

There is so much to be thankful for.

Psalm 65:11-13
You have crowned the year with Your bounty, And Your paths drip with fatness. The pastures of the wilderness drip, And the hills gird themselves with rejoicing. The meadows are clothed with flocks And the valleys are covered with grain; They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

Sometimes things look pretty bleak. The news is filled with the horrors of a sin-infested world. But Jesus is coming back. He is going to take us with Him. He is going to make this world new. Live life as He instructs us. Be a pilgrim. This is not our home. He is preparing a place for us.

John 14:1-3
"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

Now there is something to stand before Him in silent worship about.
