THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - October 14, 2014 - Day 67 - Psalm 67

Bless us God. Bless this meal. God bless America. How often we ask God to bless us. Psalm 67 begins as we so often do we call out to God.

Psalm 67:1
God be gracious to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us—Selah.

We want God’s grace. We want God’s blessing. And we sure do want His face to shine on us. But why do we want these things from God? What is our motive? The author asks these things of God but for the right reasons.

Psalm 67:2
That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations.

Let’s reread that but together now.

Psalm 67:1-2
God be gracious to us and bless us, And cause His face to shine upon us—Selah. That Your way may be known on the earth, Your salvation among all nations.

Yes we can ask God for these things but the purpose, our purpose should be so that God is glorified. That His way be known on the earth. We were not created so God could give us that nice house in the suburbs, the new car in the drive, and the bass boat on the lake. If you have those things enjoy them; they are gifts from God. But he created us to bring glory to Him. He is glorified when we find our pleasure in Him. When we do that it will become our hearts desire that His way be known on the earth and His salvation be among the nations.

So we praise Him and sing out exaltation to Him.

Psalm 67:3-5
Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You. Let the nations be glad and sing for joy; For You will judge the peoples with uprightness And guide the nations on the earth. Selah. Let the peoples praise You, O God; Let all the peoples praise You.

Yes there is so much to praise Him for.

Psalm 67:6
The earth has yielded its produce; God, our God, blesses us.

But the blessings have a purpose.

Psalm 67:7
God blesses us, That all the ends of the earth may fear Him.

He is worthy of our reverence and our praise.
