THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - September 15, 2014 – Day 47

Monday mornings. Nobody likes Monday mornings. We have to go back to work, another long week to look forward to with all its problems and worries. Why can’t everyday be a weekend? If you are a Christian then probably you attended church yesterday. One of the main purposes of church attendance is to gather together and worship God. But isn’t God worth more than one day’s worship? Rather than walk sleepily through your Monday whining and moaning why not make it another day of worship to God and let it set the standard for every day of your week? Hear the words of the psalmist from Psalm 47.

Psalm 47:1
Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
And why?

Psalm 47:2-4
For the LORD, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth. He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

When Jesus went to the cross and died our death and paid our price for sin, it did not end there. No, He rose from the grave and now He sits at the right hand of the Father.

Psalm 47:5
God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.

This is a messianic psalm. It looks forward to the return of Christ when He will put away all the enemies of our faith. But we need not fret over things until He returns. The world is not spinning out of control. Jesus is still King right now. He is worthy of our praise.

Psalm 47:6-8
Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

Yesterday as Christians God’s people gathered in churches all over the world. Today we are to go back out into the world and should feel recharged with the power of the Holy Spirit. Rather than whine and complain we need to do what Jesus has called us to, and that is to be the salt and the light of the earth.

Praise God today. Even on Mondays for He has not changed. Shine His light and exalt Him.

Psalm 47:9
The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!

Jesus is coming back. I don’t know if He is coming back on a Monday or not but just in case He does we probably should be busy in the work He has given us to do while we wait for Him. And no the answer doesn’t lie in another cup of coffee; it lies in the power of the Holy Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to refill you this morning.

Isaiah 40:28-31
Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
