THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - September 12, 2014 – Day 45 - Psalm 45

A marriage made in heaven. We have all heard the term. Psalm 45 is a wonderful picture of the greatest marriage ever to be. It is a picture of the marriage of Christ and His church. In every single wedding I’ve ever been to it is the bride who gets the attention. The groom slips in unannounced but the bride arrives to a song and every one stands as she walks down the aisle. But in the greatest wedding ever it is the groom who gets the glory. He gets it because He is the King. He is King of kings and Lord of all. He is the most handsome groom ever. And God the Father has blessed Him for all eternity.

Psalm 45:1-2
My heart overflows with a pleasing theme; I address my verses to the king; my tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe. You are the most handsome of the sons of men; grace is poured upon your lips; therefore God has blessed you forever.
As the Church we can sing songs of joy for as His bride we can rejoice in song and praise. Our King and our groom is mighty in power. He wears His sword upon His thigh. When he comes for us He will use that sword to fight the final battle in which He will sweep away His enemies forever.

Psalm 45:3
Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one, in your splendor and majesty!
In this psalm we see the 3 traits upon which He bases His victory. Truth, humility, and righteousness are His and His alone. He offers them to us, His bride.

Psalm 45:4
In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds!
His arrows are sharp and the victory is already won, though we await the final battle.

Psalm 45:5
Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the king's enemies; the peoples fall under you.
Eternity is His and He will give it to His bride as a wedding gift. He will change His bride and give her a new garment to wear in eternity. Then He will place her at His right side.

Psalm 45:6-9
Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. The scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness; you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions; your robes are all fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia. From ivory palaces stringed instruments make you glad; daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor; at your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.
But until the wedding day we, His bride, need to be busy preparing ourselves for His coming. First of all we must separate ourselves from the world and make Him Lord of our lives.

Psalm 45:10-11
Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear: forget your people and your father's house, and the king will desire your beauty. Since he is your lord, bow to him.
As we await His return for us we need to be growing in our faith and turning from our ugly nature of sin to be a bride who is adorning herself in righteousness. We must be a bride who is attractive merely by our expression of joy and gladness as we wait for our wedding day.

Psalm 45:13-15
All glorious is the princess in her chamber, with robes interwoven with gold. In many-colored robes she is led to the king, with her virgin companions following behind her. With joy and gladness they are led along as they enter the palace of the king.
Our mission until He returns is to lead others to Him and invite them to be betrothed to him as well. It is only when they can see the joy we have in Christ despite the sorrows of this fallen world that others will want what we have.

Psalm 45:16
In place of your fathers shall be your sons; you will make them princes in all the earth.
Rejoice Church; for we shall reign with Christ for all eternity in a new heaven and a new earth and we shall praise Him forever and ever!

Psalm 45:17
I will cause your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore nations will praise you forever and ever.
Amen.
