THE PSALMS – A JOURNEY IN WORSHIP AND FAITH - December 25, 2014 - Day 131 - Psalm 131

If there is one trait of Jesus that is most to be admired it is His amazing humility. His whole entire life on this earth was walked out in humility. It started on Christmas day when in the greatest act of humility He left the fellowship of the Father to be born as a baby in a manger. Psalm 131 is a lesson in humility for us.
Psalm 131:1
My heart is not proud, O LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.

As men of this world humility is the antithesis of what we are taught. It is a competitive world we live in and we are being led down a prideful path early on. Sports, school, and then later work are all places that being first and being best is valued. But for the one who chooses to be a disciple of Christ pride is the enemy. In truth it is the root of all sin. To be Born Again is to humble yourself and to become a baby again no matter how old you are. It is to stop being concerned with things too great and too wonderful to grasp with the human mind. To have great faith one must let go of his own concept of self and of self sufficiency. We must get quiet before God and let Him have the reins of our lives.

Psalm 131:2
But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Today is Christmas. Hear the Word of God this morning.

Isaiah 9:6-7
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Let Jesus be your King from this moment on.

Psalm 131:3
O Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore.

Like the command to Israel the psalmist has put forth, so must we humble ourselves today and let go. Put your hope in the Lord; both now and forevermore.
Merry Christmas.
