Studies in the Psalms - Psalm 64

I read a quote this morning that said this, “If you can explain what’s going on, the Lord didn’t do it.” I have no idea who Dr. Bob Cook is, but he is right on in this quote. God works in the realm of a world we have little knowledge of. The Christian life is a mystery, yet we are always trying to explain things. We try and explain things to a non-believing world and the truth is, it cannot be explained.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16
The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.  The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one.  “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Christians, you have the mind of Christ. You have the very Holy spirit of God living in you. Let Him teach you and guide you. David knew this and lived that way. Psalm 64 is yet one more example of living by faith.

Psalm 64:1-6
Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.  Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, from the throng of evildoers,  who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows,  shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear.  They hold fast to their evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly, thinking, “Who can see them?”  They search out injustice, saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.” For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.

The world is an enemy of the Christian life. We must call on God to protect and guide us.

Psalm 64:7-9
But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly.  They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them; all who see them will wag their heads.  Then all mankind fears; they tell what God has brought about and ponder what he has done.

Let God be the avenger. Let God be your protector.

Psalm 64:10
Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult!

Our job is to rejoice in the Lord and trust in Him. This will be the greatest witness to the lost possible.

Be His.
