Most of us have
speculated about what Heaven will be like and what we will do there. Psalm 99
looks forward to eternity and reminds us that worship and praise will be what
defines Heaven and it also reminds us that God is worthy of the highest praise
possible, not just in Heaven, but now.
Psalm 99:1
The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
Let the peoples
tremble. Do you tremble when you come before God?
Psalm 99:2
The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.
The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples.
God is not just
exalted over Israel; He is exalted for all peoples.
Psalm 99:3
Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!
Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he!
Three times God’s
holiness is mentioned in this psalm. Understanding what it means to say god is
Holy is paramount in understanding how we must approach Him. His holiness is
why we tremble when we are in His presence.
Psalm 99:4
The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.
Looking for justice?
You will only find in it God.
Psalm 99:5
Exalt the LORD our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!
Exalt the LORD our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!
Holy is He.
Psalm 99:6-8
Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon his name. They called to the LORD, and he answered them. In the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them; they kept his testimonies and the statute that he gave them. O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings.

God’s holiness
demands obedience. Unlike the Jews in the day spoken of here, we now have
Jesus, who is our mediator. When we call upon the name of Jesus, God forgives
us, because the actions of God as avenger were directed at Christ as He hung on
the cross.
Psalm 99:9
Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy!
Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy!
Holy, Holy, Holy is
He. Exalt Him and worship at His Holy mountain. Thanks to Jesus, we can do this
now and we will do this for all of eternity.
Our God is Holy.
